Stine - I would recommend that you contact MAGIC for the RSS/SGA

library log (they can email it in Excel), and then you can pick out

the various medical journal articles that are on growth hormone and

RSS/SGA kids. This will give you the best specific data -- and also

there are a couple new articles that have longitudinally tracked

groups of RSS children to adulthood, on growth hormone.

My daughter has RSS, started GH in October 2000 when she was

4 yrs 9 months. Absolutely did the caloric repletion route via Dr.

H. was 38 " tall when we started and 30 pounds. I am

guessing by October 2004 she will be about 54 inches tall and 54

pounds. In four years. She is now about the 65th percentile in

height. My husband, mind you, though, is 6'4 " tall. I am 5'4 "

tall. 's target height is 5'7 " tall as a result, for an

adult.

My daughter is not RSS but undiagnozed short stature (also SGA) she

started growth hormone 3 weeks ago at age 21 months. She must be one

of the youngest to start GH who is not GH deficient. Her endo decided

to start GH right away when her growth flattened during her last

visit in July. Its too soon to tell of a measurable change in growth

velocity, but she has gained a pound the last month (while appearing

to eat the same) but her average weight gain was half pound per month

for the last six months. She has low muscle tone and cannot walk yet,

but started climbing stairs last week and free standing. I dont know

if her sudden improvement in gross motors and weight is due to GH or

a coincidence. But the shots are a breeze. She is not on periactin.

She has always maintained 50% weight for height (with NG tube for a

year, she is off tube feeding since March) so caloric catchup was not

an issue with her. Her weight gain did flatten out the last few

months but thats because her height gain flattened.She is not on

periactin.
