Guest guest
Hi Tosha, One way to help your daughter avoid the eye problems that sometimes accompany Graves' is to make sure she is not exposed to cigarette smoke, as that's one thing that's been shown to contribute. I'm glad to hear you will try anti-thyroid meds for your daughter. My endocrinologist offered them to me as one of three equal choices (along with radiation and surgery), and you should be able to find an endocrinologist or general practitioner who will work with you. Frequent (every four weeks?) blood tests are needed at first because the dosage needs to be gradually decreased. Many people do enter remission (often in about 18 months), and the mother of 9-year-old Austin was told that radiation should not be used on children lest it damage their fertility. Graves' can make people emotional and impatient, so you may need to explain to your daughter what she's experiencing. A very helpful book is Graves' Disease: A Practical Guide, by Elaine . Best wishes, B.
