Guest guest
Aldyth I think the only thing you can do is go with your gut feeling. I always intended to stop at 18 months to see if there was any change. I think this was probably because I I've been told over and over that the chances of being in remission are so slim, and I don't really believe that I will be either. I'm not bothered by the prospect of going a bit hyper because it's been so easily brought under control before. Maybe because I was SO ill when diagnosed (FT4 of 70, normal - 9 - 20) and had been ill for over a year with it all put down to my mental health problems it doesn't seem a big deal really. Could do with shifting a few pounds anyway lol. But seriously I know that if I'm not happy before my appointment in .... 6 weeks now ... then I will have no qualms about presenting myself at my GPs and requesting a blood test, and they'll back me up on it. It has been scary trying to second guess my body and over analyzing every little thing to see if it might be a symptom, but I think that just makes it worse. Just do what you think is best. Easier said than done, but you've got plenty of time before you have to make an informed decision. Take care elsie RE: Going off ATDs/Elsie Oh Elsie, I do wish you all the very best that your next blood test result is good and that you are in remission. Thank you for your e-mail. I think it's bad that they have no specific test here that can determine remission or not. I would be happy to stop the Carbimazole if I were hypo, although my FT3 is right at the bottom of the reference range it doesn't inspire confidence. The Endo said some peoples FT3 just stays right down there at the bottom when they come off the ATD's, some don't. My gut feeling is to wait until I feel confident about coming off it, then doing it as Pam suggests ie. very slowly. It's a hard decision to make. (Still might brave the GP for the TRAb test though). What made you decide to stop, anything specific, or just wanted to find out if you still had active Graves? Best wishes, Aldyth
