A lot of questions here: How did your grandmother become hypo? Was it through surgery or was she always hypo? Her hypoT is likely to be much more manageable on synthroid (that one little pill a day) than if you have RAI, but even so, there's no guarantee that you may not need more than T4 supplementation. Also, with all due respect, our parents and grandparents have a degree of forebearance and patience that I envy and try to cultivate, but sometimes they tend to put up with too much. Is your grandmother really doing well (I do hope so!) and has it been smooth sailing all along? So if surgery is an option open to me I think I'll take > it. Thank you so much for listening to me. I appreciate every thing > you have told me and helped me to understand better. Maybe the more > I > educate myself my mind will change about the whole surgery thing. You will be amazed at how much you'll be picking up over the next few weeks. Surgery is a fine option given the right circumstances, but it's still a very drastic decision. You will almost definitely need lifelong supplementing; ATDs can be taken long-term but many people don't need to. Well I'm sure it hasn't been smooth, it did take a while to get everything at the right doseage but now she has no problems. Will always have to check levels and make sure that they are right for her. But so far so good(she's 72). Tina
