Guest guest
I have a 5.5 yo who speaks quietly and without any expression. Do any of you know how the professionals work with this? Since I homeschool, I prefer to manage this on my own. Any suggestions? Lolita

He started talking over a year ago (now 4 1/2) and at our first meeting with his ABA pre-school asked about getting expression or intonation into his speech. The psychologist at the meeting asked " but isn't that a recognized part of the syndrome? " or words to that effect. That shut us up fast. A few months ago though my son and 6 yr old daughter who go to bed at the same time started wanting me to sing " Gilligan's Island " at bedtime. They learned it, and even danced a little at the end of the song. Now 's speech therapist says she thinks he'll start to develop intonation. I've also tried stuff like 'hi', 'low' only intonating upwards or downwards. And he'd copy me, as best he could. So I think the ability, and possibly motivation are there, but it's not coming naturally the way it does with other kids. Marty
Guest guest
Try doing sing song type rhymes and songs with the kids. Also, change your voice and play puppets that has worked for us. LOL, Sharon
Guest guest
As I understand it, floortime is a program of one to one interaction. Please send me in a direction of using this to help my son with his speech. I mean he gets one on one with his schooling, how do I use this floortime to influence his speech pattern? Thank you for answering. Lolita >Floortime, floortime, floortime!
