Guest guest
My son (1 yr old) has " horseshoe shaped " kidneys...which is considered an anomaly...but I guess they're not really that unusual...or so I've been told. The doctors said it will not effect the way they function (whew). I had wondered if other RSS kids had kidney abnormalities, but I never hear (or see rather!) anyone talk about it. I also wonder if any other RSS children have been diagnosed with anomalies in their intestinal tract? The position of 's " ligament of treitz " is in the right upper quadrant, and it should be to the left of midline in the left upper quadrant. He also has a " malrotation anomaly of the proximal small intestine " . Which eseentially means it's somewhat twisted. I am still waiting for word from the Chief pediatric surgeon at Children's hospital in Oakland to find out whether or not they want to operate to fix it. It obviously can cause problems down the line if it twists enough to prevent proper digestion. My gastroenterologist did not know if this anamoly was common with RSS, he could not find any data to support it, so I was hoping to find out from some of you...? turned one year old on 7/3 and he seems to be doing well. He weighs 11 lbs 3 oz and he's 26 inches long. Take care, ( 5 and 1 - RSS)
