Guest guest
If a person gained lots of weight from being hypo and then went hyper, if they don't do anything about the hyper, will they lose weight? That would be me. I gained so much weight from being hypo. By the time I went to the Doctor I was hyper, but he thinks I had just gone hyper. Now, I am thinking I should have keep my mouth shut for awhile to see if the weight would have come back off. Guest guest
Betty, Untreated hyperthyoidism is life threatening! So I guess the answer to this question would depend on your priorities....is some extra weight more important or is your life more important? I say this only because I don't want others reading to think that it is okay to remain hyperthyroid in order to lose weight. This is dangerous territory. But I do understand your concern, since I was originally very hypo, gained weight and then became hyper. I only lost a few pounds if any. Not that it makes a difference now. I hate all this extra weight. Don't we all? I am glad that you answered that for me, because I would have always wondered. Does the Doctor ever give anything to patients to help get this weight off? The weight isn't healthy either. Thanks so much. Guest guest
Betsy , You said: Does the Doctor ever give anything to patients to help get this weight off? Yes... a GOOD doctor will do proper thyroid tests. Will get you on PROPER replacement hormone. The weight will then return to normal. IF thyroid hormone is not correct, there is nothing safe you can do. But you need to understand, this takes TIME. Your wasting your mental effort on weight. Spend that time understanding WHY this is happening. Learn everything you can about THYROID. -Pam L -
Guest guest
OK... now I see the original question. ( sigh ) No... hyper causes weight gain in many of us. My experience was slight hyper added 60 lbs. Sever life threatening hyper caused the rapid weight loss. -Pam L - who has sizes 7 to 24 in my closet. I do NOT recommend it. Guest guest
Hi Betty: Don't count on it, I gained 60 lbs in less than a year. Plus, letting yourself stay in a hyper state could bring big problems, I took a while to start treatment and it was really really rough. Good luck! > > If a person gained lots of weight from being hypo and then went hyper,
