Guest guest
Hi: Has anyone else experienced diarrhea when their child started Dari-Free? My son won't drink milk subs, but I started using the powdered DF in recipes (such as Karyn Seroussi's Ersatz Yogurt, and Nut Butter Balls) three days ago. Since then, my son has had poops that are runnier than usual and very light in color. Is this unusual, and is it possible it will go away after a few days? BTW, we have been CF over a year and GF four months. I wonder about the corn issue that was discussed on the list recently, but my son is not totally corn-free at present so I don't think that's the problem here. I'm trying to eliminate soy right now, which is why I made the Ersatz Yogurt. Thanks,

OK - A comment from the " Poop Queen: " ;-) Light-colored stools are common in kids on the diet, but do not seem to be linked to any health problem or behavioral issues. Lately, after reading about titanium dioxide, I have been wondering if they might be caused by the excretion (not absorption, which is good) of titanium dioxide in DariFree and other milk substitutes. My son had " white " poops for ages, which firmed up and darkened up after his single secretin infusion, and also as he got older (he's over 7 now). They also darkened after eating red meat. I have never been too concerned by white or light poops, since they seem to be reported to me by parents of the diet " responders " more than in some others. My peds GI doc said they were inconsequential (um, actually this means little, in terms of my confidence level around GI Docs, but it's slightly reassuring!) Loose stools concern me more, since they affected my son's behavior and were usually indicative of food allergy (is 's son intolerant to potatoes?) If anyone wants to do a white-poop diary/rotation diet report please tell me the results! Regards to all, Karyn
