Guest guest
Hey Barb, I don't know if the " tic " thing is related to TED or not, but I happen to have had trouble with one of these pesky things myself lately, and in doing some research online, I found out a couple of things about these tics: 1. First off, if you wear glasses, make sure you get your eyes checked as an eye Dr. on a board I went to for eye tics (there is a board for everything!!! LOL) said that in his experience 95% of tics are related to your lens RX....especially the astigmatic component. I found that VERY interesting as I just recently got an updated prescription on my lineless tri-focals, and from day 1 I felt that something was " off " in the right eye (which now has a tic in the lower lid). Just went back to my eye doc about it and we are getting a new lens that has my prescription shifted a bit in the placement on the lens.....I'm hoping that will help fix it. :-) 2. A lot of folks on that board mentioned that having a calcium/magnesium imbalance or lack can be a major factor in developing eye tics, and many of them testified that once they took these supplements the tic went away. I just recently followed a link from one of the helpful people on this board that was all about the different supplements that you should take if you have Graves.....and calcium and magnesium was mentioned on there too.......Coincidence? I hear the Twilight Zone theme! LOL So I went to my Natural food/health store today and got some supplements for that as well. 3. The other thing that a couple medical boards mentioned as being a factor in the eye tics was dry eyes.....another parallel with Graves. Quite the co-inkydink don't you think? I've also been having trouble with my eyes feeling really dry lately....especially during the night and when I first wake up. So thanks to a previous post on this board someone had mentioned what to do for those dry eyes, so I went out and got the drops they recommended today as well. It was Refresh eye drops for the day and GenTeal gel for the night. Between these 3 things I'm optimistic that my tic will go as mysteriously as it appeared. They also mentioned stress as being a factor - imagine that! And doing work that required you to sit in front of a computer screen and straining your eyes that way. Might be helpful to do something about those 2 factors if that's an issue. Hopefully one or all of these will be of help to you to. Good luck and hang in there! Guest guest
Hi Barb, I'm not an expert on dry eye (though I do have a mild case), but from what I understand, you can be tearing because of dry eye. That is because the tear film, which has 3 different layers, is insufficient (that film coats the eye). So it is good to lubricate with drops as needed. I like Genteal drops (some people like Genteal gel, but I prefer the drops). I find it helpful to use the drops before bed.
Guest guest
Hi Barb, *I* think it's just one of the ways we process stress or is an indicator that our stress capacity is at it's fill. I know that for one of the most stressful periods of my life I had that stupid eye tick for about 3-4 months and it finally went away when things in my life calmed down. It comes back once in awhile and now I take it as a sign I need to work on de-stressing. Oh, once I complained about it during a cranio-sacral session and she worked on my face and eyes for about 1/2 and hour and that eye tick was gone for a good 8 months after... it came back recently when we started bombing Iraq, but didn't last long as I kicked it's butt with some good deep breathing.
