Guest guest
Hi, Marlene, is the medication " Ambien " ? I hear it is a good sleep aid. Of course, ph, you want to minimize the use of sleep aids. But you do seem rather in need of rest, so that would be a good thing to inquire about, as it takes some time for the synthroid to kick in. BTW, you are absolutely entitled (by law) to a copy of your lab report. Please get a copy and start a binder. You will need it to get yourself stabilized. No more dwelling in the dark! Guest guest
ph, You sound very, very hypo. You probably therefore are not thinking straight, and don't have the energy to follow up on things properly. You MUST pull yourself together and do a couple of simple things: First, get copies of all your labs. Share them here. Do take your Synthroid, as it should give you some relief. ALL your symptoms, the sleep disturbances, pain, energy level problems are CAUSED by being hypo. If the dose you have been given isn't enough you will continue to be hypo. If you don't take the medicine, you risk getting so hypo you'll go into a coma. Having never taken Synthroid, I don't know how long it takes to start working, but it seems to me that a sleep-aid will just muddy the waters, if synthroid acts fairly quickly. You simply won't have clear information to evaluate what effect it's having on you if you are taking yet another drug. But someone with much more experience than me may contradict that statement. It's just logic, not experience speaking. You may be so sleep deprived that you can't tolerate more (sounds pretty dire from your description). Are you getting any help? I recall that you have a family, can you ask your wife to help you deal with the doctors office, make sure to get lab copies, help you communicate your concerns? It always bothers me when people get their labs at the appointment and then get instructions by phone from the doctor's office after the results are in. In the future get your labs done BEFORE the appointment, so you can discuss the results with the doctor face to face, get all your questions answered, and get a copy of the results on the spot. Your post is one of many that points to the absurdity of doctor's logic that giving RAI is a safe, effective treatment. I don't understand how they can ignore results like yours, but they routinely seem to do so. Guest guest
Hi all, I too was placed on ambien. I liked it. You could get it from your regular doctor as well. Only time it didn't really work, was when I was extremely hypo, in march. But I was still able to get four hours of sleep during that time. Ambien doesn't mae you groggy like some medicines. Just make sure you take it at a descent hour. If not, it will make you very sleepy. You just have to be careful, because it is a derivative of vallium, which can possibly make it habbet forming. I have a friend, who is taking xanix for sleep disturbances. It seems to be working for her. Hope this all helps. Just check with your doctor. Oh and stay away from amatriptoline, also known as ellerville. It works for sleeping, but has a lot of effects. At least that was my experience with tit. Have you tried some of the over the counter sleep aids? R. Green ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Are you getting any help? I recall that you have a family, can you ask your wife to help you deal with the doctors office, make sure to get lab copies, help you communicate your concerns? I think this is the best advise of all !!! Can she go to the doctors office first thing Monday morning and get paper copies of these lab results ? Can you call work and go in late Monday ? The doctor needs to see YOU, not labs only. When we are this hypo we can not fight with the girls in the office and are sent away. Your wife can do the talking for you. It is very important right now to know what your heart rate is. Hypo can lower it too much, and if that happens , a sleep aid will put you in a coma. Might sound good, but what if they kept you alive and you spent the rest of your life with brain damage from it ? Your heart rate... beats per minute and blood pressure should be checked at the doctors office NOW. We are all getting mighty attacthed to you now, so please get this checked. We will be waiting for future word from you . Oh... and great job ! You got the labs done and got the Synthroid ! It WILL get better ! Guest guest
ph: I find it unbelievable that a doctor would allow a situation where one of his/her patients continuously gets only 1 1/2 hours of sleep per night. Anyone would be a walking zombie...unable to think, let alone barely function. (If you are able to work under this condition...then you're one amazing person.) Anyway...a decent doctor would work with you weekly until you were able to sleep. I'd even imagine that they would try beta blockers (or for a short period of time, try a tranquilizer or a sleeping pill), anything so that you can get some sleep. Without sleep, your body can't heal...let alone even repair enough for daily needs of the body. A friend of mine who was hyperthyroid and could not sleep for weeks...she was given a prescription for a sleeping pill. Taht was for a period of one week only. Following that, her doc gave her a tranquilizer, and again that was for a month only. By that time the doc had figured out what was out of balance & my friend never needed the sleeping aids again. Most important: I honestly think that you need a different doctor, and fast. (If you ever do go to a new doc...don't let the other one know until you totally decide to switch.) One other issue...your lab tests, you are entitled by law to them. Just write a letter and send it to the doc, requesting photocopies of every lab test you've ever had. Send a follow-up 15 days later if no response. And if no response within 30 days of sending the initial request...get a lawyer who will write a letter that will get action (as the doc would rather give the tests than go through a lawsuit that would force him to pay large compensatory damages to you for violation of patients rights.) All my best to you, Ron > ok i'm about to lose it I had RAI about 5 months ago and now things > are really bad had levels tested three months after RAI,levels still > high i was told, never asked for copys . so i don't even know what > test thay did? had levels tested agian on wed. endo's office called > me on fri told me i was low now and wants me on 88mil of synthyroid > once a day .moved my next app up six more weeks and have levels > checked aginn then . does this sound right? but for the last three > months i have been feelin worse and worse .joint pain is sever > engery level is gone .the worse is that i have been sleepin less and > less i'm down to about a hour and a half to two and a half hours a > night now i can't even think stright. i feel i wont live long enough > for the synthroid to start makein me sleep. also chest pain that > just stays here for days .should i go to my endo and demand sleep > aids. has anyone had to be on sleep aids? could this be a thyroid > storm this far into RAI? is youth_ in_ asia or how ever you spell it > a option?
