Guest guest
When I have to take my heprin shots I give them to myself in my stomach. They are not bad and it is a much bigger needle then even a insillin needle, but I have plenty of sub-q fat on my stomach..hehehe Coby is only just 2 so he doesn't have doesn't care where he is getting his shot. I have also stoped using the inject ease for now because I can insert the neele myself more gently and Coby isn't old enough to understand what the needle is so I don't have to worry about him being scared of it. le
Guest guest
Hi Tonya, The Inject-Ease is a barrel type device that holds a syringe. You can use a 30 unit, 50 unit, or 100 unit, insulin syringe with it. It is spring loaded, so that when you press the button on the side of the device, it launches the needle down into the skin quickly. The faster it goes, the less it hurts. You then depress the plunger, and lift the device. I like it for two reasons. One, it hides the syringe!! B definitely knows what a syringe is, and since he gets shots once a month for his Synergis vaccine (that hurt) he panics when he sees one. And two, it's bigger than the syringe and easier for me to hold steady. Dr H likes her patients to use a syringe because you can get more accurate dosing this way. With the Genotropin pen we were given, you can only dose in tenths. Dr H wanted B's dose to be .35, with the pen we only had the choice of .3 or .4, so his endo here chose to use the smaller .3 dosage. I was also told that the needles that come with the pen are not as small as insulin needles, and that they hurt more going in. since we don't use the pen device, someone correct me if I'm wrong here! LOL Hope this helps. Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 34 months, 23.9#, 32.2 " , G-Tube)
Guest guest
Hi Tonya, Sorry to hear about your week. Hang in there, tomorrow is a new day. I give Coby his shots by myself most nights. Hubby always seems to fall asleep before Coby. Another reason I like using his butt is because I can hold him better. I use my bent arms to hold him down and because he is laying on his stomach he can't move his leg as far to effect me giving his shot. Although, if you roll him on his stomach at any point when he is sleeping he rolls back over..hehehe le
Guest guest
Tonya, That's awesome! I know that first week of Coby's shots were so emotionally draining on me. I really thought I wouldn't make it those first few days. But within 6 wks things have improved dramatically! I try to give him his shots before he goes to sleep now but don't always acheive it. What I have found is that once I started giving them to him while he was awake, when I do have to do it after he's asleep he doesn't budge anymore. He has gotten so comfortable with them that at age 2 he just lays across my lap and lets me do it. He doesn't kick away or anything. Although he does walk around rubbing his butt for the first couple minutes...hehehe It's hillarias, he looks like a little old man with an itch...lol Take care...le
