Guest guest
Hi Prue, I'm sorry your having to deal with so much right now with the Uterine Cancer. I didn't have any side effects from the RAU-uptake scan either. Had I wish I didn't do it the answer would be YES. I wish I knew about the TSI test before I ended up having the RAU-uptake but no I had no bad side effects but god only knows in the long run what that does to your body. I'm hoping not much for both our sakes. Well the good news is if you think its good news is that the RAU-uptake is just a trace of the radioactive iodine but still its that " trace " word that always bothers me but since I did it and you did it we just have to get past it. At the time I didn't know any better so I had it done. You found the club before you decided so you made the best decision based on what others have told you about it. I would consider traveling to one of the other cities especially since you are dealing with a nuclear medical specialist and not a thyroid specialist like an Endo. Any nuclear medicine doctor is going to be all for RAI its what they do even if they don't think its safe they wouldn't tell you otherwise in my humble opinion. Congrats! on quitting smoking that is a huge step that is wonderful. I know that your thyroid will appreciate it. It may have caused graves and it may not have but it certainly doesn't help graves disease or any kind of lung disease so its good that you quit. I applaud your efforts on that issue. Best of luck and do consider all your options that are available to you. Right now you just did the scan but to get the R131 is a completely different story and some have to have it more than once to totally ablate the thyroid. Just be careful and consider your options and get a good doctor it doesn't sound like you have a good doctor on your side right now. She is not pushing any one treatment at this stage, just trying to get me to level out on the Carbimazole. I had bloods taken yesterday as well as the uptake scan, but still have no results. Thank you got your kind words. I have been cancer-free for 10 and a half years now, and am desperately hoping to retain the status quo. Thanks for the advice. Guest guest
Hi Barb, I'm so glad to hear that you are cancer free for 10 years that is great. To maintain the status quo would simply be to keep taking good care of yourself with good nutrition. RAI is a risk for cancer incase you didn't know that but it can cause small bowel cancer as well as cancer of the stomach and intestines. ATD's are safer in my opinion. As long as your comfortable with your doctor then by all means keep going to that doctor. I thought you were feeling unstatisfied with the doctor my mistake. Anyway keep the faith things do get better. Alegra
