Hi, ,

Surgery might be a good option for people who want to get pregenant

soon. Hope someone who actually went through the surgery will give

you some more detailed description which would be more helpful.

My sister went through near total thyroidrectomy this spring because

of stage I papillary thyroid cancer. My good friend's classmate was

the chief neck and head surgeon who did the operation. The procedure

was done under local anesthesia, which allows the head and neck

surgeon to talk to her through the operation to minimize the chance

to damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve that controls the vocal

cord. Usually with subtotal thyroidrectomy, hypoparathyroidism is

extremely rare. My sister's sugery took 4.5 hours for , which

involved frozen section and sampling lymph nodes which are usually

not required in surgery for Graves. So, the surgery for Graves should

take less time.

The questions listed by Fay might be helpful for you to go through. A

search in medline might give you some clue. Do not get intimidated

when you ask for such information. After all, it is your health that

really matters.

Best wishes,

Liang
