H All,

Just feeling a little blue lately. haven't posted or kept

up with reading them either. My sweet son has been on this diet for

almost3yrs now (we thought he had celiac disease at i7 mo,) he is

4.5yrs old. It's hard enough at Holliday time, but every year as

summer rolls in and he sees icecream commercials and other kids

enjoying other fun summer foods it just ripps my heart out. Don't get

me wrong' he is an angel about eating whatever I put in front of him

and only occasionally will ask for icecream, cookies etc. But I see

the look in his eyes and it kills me that we cant stop for a cone

after a drive or a visit to the park. I guess it's been especially

difficult because he is also phenol, soy, corn, yeast, and sugar free

(exceept for that friut based sweetner found in certain foods)His big

sweet treat is an occasional pear. He is gatting older and more wise

to what other people eat. I even give him about 1/4 of a bannana once

in a great whole just because I can't stand it (he loves them of

coarse)

I suppose it's more me than anything, the way most of us grew

up , those times (Holliday cookies, icecream, cookouts,

popcicles, pizza)are what I think about when I remember being a child.

I am very prone to tears over it lately.I love him very much and he

is doing well(very high functioning) wich is the only thing that

saves my sanity, Our eveyday life is consumed with the next meal and

getting through anothr day trying to make his life special in other

ways, overspending on toys he wants, taking him to a park or the zoo

once or twice a week, and just trying to be possitive for him all the

time so that he doesn't feel more different than he allready is.

I often think about just giving him a damned piece of pizza and some

icecream, but we did that last summer with drastic results (we had

taken him off of his thyroid medication also,so I think it was the

combination that sent him down hill)

sorry if this is depressing. I just needed a sympathetic ear

from those who know exactly what I'm talking about. Family is great

butyou guys live it every day like we do.I just pray that there will

be another way to live with this someday, We are seriously considering

chelation but my son even has trouble with supplements and it scares

me to death.Take care All and thank you soo much listening.

Marcie (Mom to Logan ASD and 22mo nt)
