Guest guest
Let me put it this way: MANY people in my family have some degree of autism (mostly undiagnosed). Actually, I don't know of any of the families joined with ours that don't contain someone with autism. If I think about it, I can probably name AT LEAST 15 people in my near and extended family (both of my parents, myself, my son, nephews, at least one brother, cousins, grandparents, aunts). I love them the way they are. I don't want to get rid of autism, just the difficulties that can come with it. Autism is pervasive and effects everything--gives good things too, although these are sometimes harder to see. For me, I wouldn't let autism stop me from having another child. It is HIGHLY likely that any future children I may have will have autism in some form. If I ever get married, it will probably be to another person with autism; I feel more at home there. I have gone with both AS/HFA and NT people before; I prefer the people with AS/HFA for partners. As for 4:1, I think it is true that 4x more boys are DIAGNOSED; most of us on the autism lists think that it is closer to 1:1 in actuality, but that girls can hide it more. Also, other girls take the " oddball " in.
