Guest guest
HI I keep hearing it can take months to get gluten out of the system. Anyone have any idea how many months? Margaret
Guest guest
I have often wondered about food changes. When going GFCF do you " substitute " new " replacement " foods, or just do without? Consider milk. It's about 6g or Protein to 10g carbo [from memory, or close] if you substitute rice milk, I wold guess you are getting about 25 carbo's and 1 g protein. I don't have labels. But consider the effect on the child. More carbo's more sugar [simplecarbos] and much less to no protein. This sure would affect my child. just an idea that popped intomy head. Guest guest
Hi We hit a rough patch at about the six month mark, too. Margaret
Guest guest
We thought we were cfgf for about a month when we discovered ' breakfast cereal contained oats. Gluten is an insidious substance that can be hidden in foods that you might never suspect. I would recommend reviewing his diet to check for hidden sources of gluten and also remember that it can take months for the residual gluten to finally come out of his system. My son has been quite off for the last several days and we don't know why. Marty

Thanks, and to the other poster as well. I'm hopeful. It really seems like is almost drunk. He repeats himself, acts silly. Yet all the progress he's made is very evident; he hasn't lost that. His language is good, talks in sentences, asks for what he wants, converses. But he's more shy than usual and more playful. Almost like a kid being a kid, in a real silly mood that's lasting several days. If it is caused by an infraction then it's coming out different than it used to. Oh, if this is a sign that things are going to get better still I can't wait to see what's next. Marty
Guest guest
My child's behavior was very erratic during the first 2 weeks gfcf - some wonderful moments of clarity, then sudden swings to hyper & angry & griefstricken. Things smoothed out, but at about week 4, I wondered if I'd imagined the positive changes b/c he deteriorated again. That passed over 7 to 10 days. I theorize that he was going thru 2 different withdrawal periods - as gluten is believed to be slower to leave the system. And during that second period, he would wake up crying & demanding bread. Also, there were some additional erratic episodes as I discovered & removed hidden gluten (shampoo, paste, cereal packaged on contaminated lines, etc.) Your experience sounds like a normal & positive reaction to the diet to me. Guest guest
.....It really seems like is almost drunk. He repeats himself, acts silly.... That's how my son reacts to a casein accident. If he eats something with a lot of articial colors, flavors, etc., he also repeats and acts silly, but is also super-hyper and doesn't have the drunk or stoned aspect.
