Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have a question about pregnancy & hyperT. I am 12 weeks pregnant & having a problem taking my thyroid meds. I am able to take the inderal fine, but can not take the PTU. I've been having pretty bad morning sickness & everytime that I take the PTU I get sick. I can swallow w/ out gagging usually but it seems that my stomach keeps rejecting it! I am still trying to find ways to take it w/o being sick....Hopefully somewhere I can find gel caps to put them into. My question is, has anyone had complications w/ their pregnancy/baby from hyperT? I know about the dangers to the mom, but am worried about the baby. Its been well over a month since I've actually kept down any PTU. Any advice, info, etc..would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance. ~Amber~

Guest guest
Hi Amber, As long as your doctor is monitoring your thyroid hormone levels and they're not too high, you should be ok. Thyroid hormone levels generally start to fall after the 1st trimester as hCG levels fall and estrogen levels rise. It's better for your baby if you're a little hyper than a little hypo. If you're having regular checkups your OB/GYN doc will be checking your baby's heartbeat to make sure it's not too high. Some people take strong mints along with their PTU and report that this helps. Take care, Elaine
