Some will fund a home program others will send out of district still others insist on whatever the district has to offer and you'll have to get a good lawyer (I could recommend one). The decision is up to the individual school boards. However even if you can't get a home program, there are many great autism schools in NJ you could get your child into. Guest guest
Hi! My son is recently diagnosed with mild Autism last March. He is 2yr8mos. He is receiving speech therapy from Early Intervention. I'm new to all of these. They are very overwhelming! I'm afraid I don't know much about what you're asking but I think I know some people who might be able to help & answer your questions. WE live in Princeton, NJ. We have an organization here called COSAC, New Jersey Center for Outreach & Services to the Autism Community, Inc. They have an online web site, njautism.org. You should be able to find what your looking for there, they also have an 800#. They have sent me a big packet full of info. I'm sure they can do that if you contact them. Hope this helps a little. yhen > > Hi. My son is currently 3 1/2 and we are receiving ABA on Long Island in NY. However, we have been told that once he turns 5 (2002-2003 school year) they really try to cut the hours down and put the child into a center-based program. Unfortunately, unless you can get into one of the good private ABA schools, the state-run autism programs are really bad and I have heard of many kids who have regressed when being put into these programs. > > My husband is originally from NJ and we would consider moving to NJ- and I was wondering if anyone who receives ABA in NJ could let me know what the situation is in NJ in regard to getting a home program paid for by the state/county after the child turns 5. Guest guest
* , My son is in an awesome ABA autrism program at E. in Dix Hills. It is a full time program and has the full time summer program too. In addition to this I am receiving 8 hours of ABA in my home with an ABA therapist. So many of our children need social skills with their peers and being able to generalize all learned skills, and this can't be done to its fullest in a limited home program. Where on Long Island are you? Could you go with your district chairperson to view E allen this month? Do it this month before the vacation, as in the summer so many children choose not to go and if you went this month you would see the vast # of happy faces. This is my sons 2nd year at JEA and I couldn't be happier. He is 6 now and had started in ABA before he was 2 at DDI and I also had worked for a short time doing ABA in a district program so I know what it is all about. Unless you are really set on moving for other reasons I would check this avenue out. also on Long Island New York * ps I live in North Babylon * On Thu, 31 May 2001 11:47:52 -0700 (PDT) Greenspan writes: > > Hi.
