Guest guest
Hi, I was looking into different companies like Glutenfreecookiejar. The products are very expensive, I would imagine that it would be less expensive to make your own food?? How do you keep your costs down?? toni
Guest guest
I make my own bread, but buy a lot of ready made stuff like pretzels and cookies. I try to buy everything locally so I don't have to pay for shipping, which is a killer. My food bills are at least twice what they used to be and I don't see anyway of avoiding that since I'm also determined to buy organic produce, as much as possible as well as meats and poultry with no hormones or other crud added. That and ordering special supplements has been tough on the family budget, but I'm not comfortable with using any other products. I'm sure a lot of stuff can be made instead of bought, but I find I don't have much time since both my boys are home with me and keeping them entertained and happy doesn't leave me much time for cooking. I'm also not able to buy in bulk since storage is a problem in my house. When I do get around to cooking, I try to bake muffins that can function for dessert as well as breakfast so I'm not spending so much on " treats " - but keep it on the very simple level. Good luck. When you have rice - don't throw that leftover cup of rice away, use it as your filler in your meatloaf. The chicken body can be picked to the bare bone and mixed with GFCF pasta and made into a pasta-chicken salad. Cracker and cereal crumbs are all stored in my refrigerator along with the heels of the bread and put into the blender to make bread crumbs. An overripe banana is added into my waffle mix. I use it all!!!!! on Long Island New York * ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Guest guest
Food co-ops can help if you can find one in your area---you can order in bulk and divide it up. Or if you feel up to starting one in your area. Also, someone recently posted recipe for rice milk made at home---very simple, just need a blender/or processor and very inexpensive. Also, if you cook in quantity and then freeze you can save a lot of time, and some money, too. April
