Guest guest
Leah, To the best of my understanding no medication can stop, or for that matter even reduce, the incidence of reflux. This is why so many of our kids have had the fundoplication surgery, this tightens the valve and actually stops the " puke " from coming up the esophagus. This brings up another question, why are all our kids on PPI meds after they have the surgery to tighten the valve? I've never heard a good answer to that one. All I know is if Grant doesn't get his meds for a couple days his appetite goes to crap. I also take a PPI and can attest to the fact that reflux continues to occur. It does state in the literature it can take a couple weeks to become fully effective. The " pumps " in a non-medicated stomach are continually being replaced, the meds stop the production of new pumps but the old ones are still there for a while, presumably a couple weeks. , Dad to Grant and others. > > Hello Everyone, > > Olivia's been on a PPI (Prilosec/Losec) since we've been home from > the convention but she's still belching very loudly and saying " my > puke just came up, but don't worry I swallowed it " . Guest guest
Well, if Olivia is telling you this, she certainly knows!!!! Did Dr. H talk to you about using both a PPI and the Zantac? That has worked the best for , but you can not use them at the same time. They recommend the PPI (for us we use Prevacid) with breakfast, and Zantac with the Periactin at dinner. Only one or the other didn't work as well for .
