Hi Mylen,

I am so sorry. It is so distressing to lose hair like this. Is your hair

coming out uniformly all over? Or can you look at your scalp and see round

patches of baldness?

With thyroid disorders, hair generally sheds all over. But with alopecia,

hair will begin to fall out in circular patterns. My husband has alopecia which

started as a round bald spot on his beard (about 3 weeks after my

RAI...hmmmm) and then moved to his scalp.

Hope you will find out what is going on with you...

God bless,

Hi Mylen,

I am going through quite a bit of hair shedding myself, and it isn't fun.

The best thing you can do is get blood work done, for Free T3, Free T4,

TSH, TPO-antibodies, TSI (stimulating antibodies), and an ultrasound (to

see if there are nodules). Diagnosis comes first. The Thyroid Awareness 101

thread is a good place to start:

Hi Mylene,

You don't mention anything about your age or other factors, but hairloss can

also result from dropping estrogen levels [which can also affect weight,

blood pressure and mood]. Many women develop thyroid disease when they

become menopausal as well.

Dr. Larrian Gillespie at www.hormonediva.com is a good resource around

dealing with menopause and the medical system regarding hormone issues. She

herself suffers from hypothyroidism. She keeps up with current research

around hormones, including thyroid disease, and points out the

weaknesses/strengths in the research. She also has diet recommendations for

keeping balance, suggestions for treatment protocols and she has a great

sense of humor.

I empathize with the hair loss issue. There are supplements that can help

(if you want to know more, just email me privately at seisele@...).

But it's important for you to determine cause before too much treatment.

Sending you peace, love and encouragement.

Hang in there,

Sheila

Even if you don't get a diagnosis of Graves, you may want to get hold of

the Letter to Spouses that I believe is linked to the homepage.

Understanding how a medical condition can effect one emotionally and

knowing that there are so many people who have coped with these issues

will give him a feeling of community. You do have to take care of

yourself, research, etc., but try to do some small, nice things for him

when you can. You'll both feel good and gain from the effort.

Take care, Fay
