Guest guest
Terry, That is very helpful! I am clueless when it comes to acupuncture, so thanks for confirming what I suspected. I guess I should find out more about acupuncture before I'd try it. I didn't even know there was a difference between Chinese and Japanese (are they just different needles, or different methods too?). Do you know of any good links/books? And what can acupuncture do for thyroid problems (hyper or hypO)? From what I've heard, it can help reduce the symptoms (at least for hyperT) but not the cause. Guest guest
Thank you so much Terry! I will check out the book before I embark on any treatments. Right now I'm doing ATDs and NMT (as well as other supplements and dietary changes), and will see how I do before I add anything else. And what does hubby say about what it can do for thyroid disease -- can it address the cause or does it primarily relieve the symptoms? And is it good for hypOT, or just hyper? Sorry to pester... Guest guest
, Bart has treated me all along for hyper, and I think that's why I have in general had an easier time than many people with it. He also treats my migraines, menopausal symptoms, back problems, foot problems etc. When I first was diagnosed, he treated me with my endo's supervision with some pretty strong herbs, which worked to bring my levels slowly down w/o ATD's. The problem occurred when we took a 3 week trip, and I couldn't boil up the herbs. He put me on powders for the trip, but the main herb indicated for my condition wasn't available in that form. So I got progressively worse, and by the time I came back from Italy, decided I just wanted to take ATD's and feel better rather than going back on the herbs. It did get tiresome, boiling herbs every day or two. So I've stayed on powdered herbs along with the ATD's, although his mixture has changed as circumstances change. I probably could get off the ATD's altogether at this point and do it all with herbs, but I don't find any bad effects from the Tap, and I'm only taking about 2 mg. a day anyway. So I opt for the stability it provides. I've only been hypo for about 2 weeks altogether and the brain fog was so thick I probably didn't think about it for the first week and a half (it just didn't dawn on me!), so he's never tried treating that. Nor does he have any other thyroid patients that he's mentioned. I am certain that Chinese herbal meds and acupuncture could relieve many symptoms of hypo, as well as hyper. But whether they can cure the disease w/o taking anything else, I can't say. it would definitely be an investment in time and money, unless you have a fantastic medical insurance plan. Or are married to your acupuncturist. Terry > > Reply-To: graves_support > Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2003 19:55:22 -0400 > To: graves_support > Subject: Re: Acupuncture -- Terry > > Thank you so much Terry! Guest guest
Terry, Thanks again for the wonderful info! It all makes sense to me. As I am not married to an acupuncturist and am currently doing well on a low dose of PTU, I think the acupuncture is not necessary at this point. I will investigate further if I need to at a later time. I am glad you are doing well too!
