Guest guest
I am not really sure what IEP means, but my local school district offer services to kids until kindergarten. Ethan was able to get one one one speech therapy in our home once a week for 5 months. > Hi friends, > > Can anyone point me to any kinds of " documentation " I can use for ammunition > in obtaining direct speech therapy services for my 3.5 year-old son? > (PDD-NOS) has emerging verbal skills due mostly in part to the GFCF diet. > > Current IEP allows only for 1 hr/week of group speech therapy. Speech is obtained thru your dr. prescription, applying then thru a therapy unit near you. *Sorry*, but did you ask your dr? He/she should be able to prescribe the therapy. There will be an assessment to verify what are your child needs and then(you have to bug them a lot)he will get the prescription for the therapy he needs. Kind of the way it worked for the school IEP. Also if you are using Med.Cpn thru DDD or other services, that should pay for your therapy. I am in WA, so I don't know how it works where you are, but your devel. peds should be able to point you in the right direction. Or you can ask FEAT or ASA, to help you with the details, that's what they are there for!! I do not know how it works with the school. As you we get 1hr speech 1hr OT per wk at school. I'll check more out with a friend of mine and let you know; my son -he's 4.5- just got approved for speech and OT at a therapy unit here and I am waiting for the start day(when they get an opening)for Speech. Good luck. Hope this helped for now. Cristina ('s mom-WA)
Guest guest
The previous poster's advice was correct for NY State as well. Have the developmental ped or psych who diagnosed your child give a recommendation for # of hours of 1:1 therapy. In our IEP, my son got 12hrs/week Spec Ed and 8hrs/week Speech in our home, plus OT, PT, and Team Meetings. Those levels are going up in Sept. when my son transitions to the Preschool program. Sounds to me like you're being short-changed! (Don't feel too bad - it took me 6+ months to ramp up to these levels - I'd never dreamed I could get that much until I started asking around!) Good Luck!
