Guest guest
Hi everyone, my name is Tina, I'm 23 and have just recently been told by my doctor that I have graves' disease. I went for a blood test to check my cholesterol and my thryoid because my heart rate was 138 while resting. That came back to tell me that my thyroid was over active, from there I went to have an uptake scan, which my Dr. told me there was way too much T4 (don't no how much)and little to no trace of any TSH. I go for an ultrasound on the 14th but I'm not on any meds or anything at the present time, if nothing shows up on the ultrasound we'll do nothing until Dec. Did any of you have to wait this long before treatment or discussion of treatments?. I'm scared and not sure what to expect. Thanks for listening,Tina

They could have been written with you in mind so please take a close look at them. I'm very surprised you're not on beta-blockers. I actually bypassed them, went straight on ATDs and did fine, but since for most people there's an interim between diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and actually starting treatment, it's really crucial to get on them or (hope I have my terms straight) calcium channel blockers for those who can't take BBs. Please contact your dr.'s office as soon as you can to get on BBs. Can you (and too, if you're reading this) share with us your bloodwork and the ranges your labs say are normal? SInce your dr. isn't rushing you into treatment you have time to research all your options. Right now you may feel scared and faced with the unexpected but once you start getting informed you'll feel much calmer and more confident. The only counts that I can remember are the T4. 2 weeks ago it was 76 and now it is 59.
