Guest guest
Jody, I am first concerned about the fact that he started to vomit blood and he has thickening in his lung tissue along with the reflux. If he is aspirating at all, bacteria can cause such a bad infection in the lungs. Make sure he is getting enough fluids every day. water will adsorb quicker than formula... so make sure he is getting it. I am also worried that the lining in his esophagus is so very irritated. He needs a little time to heal and hope he does not get an illius that will keep him from eating. My instincs are telling me to take things slow with Liam and don't feel you need to rush into the GH it can wait a week or so until you figure out what is going on with him. My word of caution to you is if he starts to spike a fever in the next couple days monitor it very close and see if it responds to medication. If the fever does not start to go down or goes down a very small amount with in a short time take him to the ER and mention the illness he had, reflux and recent spitting up of blood along with dehydration... better to be safe..I do not want to scare you but I just do not like the sound of what has been happening recently with :Liam. Please keep us informed...I will worry.. Guest guest
Thanks for replying. Liam is on antibiotics for the chest infection, still coughing heaps but hasnt had a temp for about 8 hours now, and got up and played in his room for a while. Will be watching him closely, we have had so many disappointments with Liams Drs lately Im hoping to steer clear of the hospital. I think his gut stopped last week(we would call it paralytic illeus) when he went to hospital, and thats why he was vommiting blood, but his paed just had that smug look of 'i know better'and is convinced he had rotavirus(even though tests didnt show it) Thanks again, and thanks to you and Joe for the great photos, you guys are great. Guest guest
Jody, Right this minute I'm regretting not having enough time to read messages in a timely fashion. Poor Liam sounds like he's in bad shape! Growth hormone is NOT important right now. He needs to get his more urgent medical issues under control first. Most individuals who suffer from reflux DO NO aspirate into their lungs. For those who do, lung damage can occur. I am concerned that Liam's " chest infection " could be caused by aspirating what he is refluxing. How is his breathing and energy level at baseline? Is it different now he is sick? Has surgery for reflux ever been mentionned? What do they think the vomiting blood was from? Please let me know if I can help in any way. My 2 1/2 yr old daughter has lung damage from aspirating over a 7 month period, and after surgery, still requires oxygen over 2 years later. No medication worked to control her reflux - she had to have a fundoplication (nissan) to stop her reflux which was threatening her life. It sounds like Liam's physicians are not working fast enough to get to the bottom of his ill health. Best wishes, > > Hi all, > I need some opinions on treatment! > The short story is, we now know, Liam has reflux he is being treated > with zantac, which we are hoping to chage over to losec soon, we > know he has thickening of his bronchioles(? damage from reflux), and > Im hoping to convince someone to do a endoscope very soon. > liam has just had 2 illnesses on top of one another last week he > stopped tolerating his feeds couldnt keep anything down and ended up > in casualty vomitting blood.
