Guest guest
Well, we're off to a start, right? Actually, you should be going back in 4 weeks. I would push for that, because you want to avoid hypO if possible. Dose reductions should occur when you are just coming down into the normal range. In 6 weeks you might be too low already, causing unnecessary hypO symptoms. Do not let the doctor dose you according to the TSH; FT3 and FT4 are the current thyroid levels, and TSH may take months or years to come up, depending on how it is being suppressed by the presence of antibodies. In the future, when you are offered RAI, you can stick to your guns and continue to refuse it. Guest guest
I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and on PTU. As Debbie said, I have found that my levels have definitely improved during the pregnancy. I started on 300 mgs. PTU/daily and am now down to 75 mgs. PTU/daily. My reg. ob and high risk ob have both said that it is safe to breastfeed while on PTU. I know that it does pass through, but I (and they) feel that the benefits outweigh that fact. I have heard contrary ideas, but I know that for me, I will breastfeed. I hope this helps. Lori > So, do you all think this is > the best plan? Guest guest
I have learned so far that the baby's levels will need to be checked regularly regardless of whether or not I am going to breastfeed, just due to the taking of PTU during my pregnancy. I can't wait to get into all of this with the pediatrician, too! Actually, my ped. is wonderful and maybe, if all else fails, I can get him to take over my care and treatment, too!! > >I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and on PTU. Guest guest
I had a child while on PTU.. I chose to breastfeed regardless .. I felt that the child was rec. PTU through me all 9 mos and the benefits outweighed the risks. He is monitored regardless. It is a good idea to meet w/ the pediatrician before hand to let them know what they are in for. Mine was great met me at the hospital and started running labs right away. He has since been tested every 6 mos (more often earlier on) He is 13 mos old now and perfectly healthy. Try not to be too stressed out by the pregnancy and all they say can happen. Take it one day at a time.. Take care, > > >I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and on PTU.
