She was in your identical situation and can give you practical guidelines for the " office. " You may remember that last year someone was in the NY subway 3 WEEKS after having had RAI and set off some radiation detectors. More to the point, I hope you'll be feeling relief from your hyper symptoms soon, that you have an endo who really really really knows how to treat hypothyroidism, and that you consider omega 3 supplementing to protect your eyes from the increased risk of thyroid eye disease that RAI causes. It's been really hectic here so jog my memory - have you been on the list long? We tend to be a pretty anti-RAI bunch here, though we all appreciate what goes in to making the decision (or lack of it when a dr. doesn't inform a patient sufficiently). Still there are enough people here who've been through it, are now hypo, dealing with TED, etc. that you should consider hanging around for the information and support you can find. Guest guest
Hi, After RAI it's normal to set off radioactive counters for as long as 8 weeks. I totally contaminated the nuclear chemistry department in our lab. This is because you'll be emitting radioiodine rays for at least that long. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Hi Liang, I've heard it's important to drink lots of water following RAI. I've also heard mention of drinking aloe juice or gel to soothe your mucous membranes. The most important thing is to get prompt follow-up care from your doctor--blood tests in a few weeks (4?) or sooner if you have symptoms, whether hyper or hypo (there's a symptoms lists in the files section of this group's homepage). You may continue to have hyper symptoms or you may become hypo quickly and need replacement hormone. Doctors don't always follow up as soon as needed, so it's up to us. Best wishes, > > I got RIA last week. the counter in my lab beeps like crazy. people > in my lab all freaked out, I am on sick leave now. > do not know what is going to happen. and a bit scared i guess. > liang > > > > >
Guest guest
Thanks for your wishes. Sorry for late reply. I am doing ok but a bit hyper, I guess it is from the hormone released from the damaged gland. I will get a follow up next week. Once again, thank you and best wishes.
