Michele, if you're reading this I put you on the subject line. You were

contemplating RAI earlier this week, right? We haven't heard from you.

If you went ahead and did it, don't be afraid to tell us. We'll show you

just how warm and supportive we can be of anyone's decisions! If you did

do it I hope you're feeling relief from your symptoms and are learning

what you will need to minimize the chances of experiencing the more

negative aspects of RAI. These would include but by no means are limited

to:

- getting as much info as you can about thyroid supplements

- making sure your dr. is experienced with T3 hormones

- taking omega 3 which has been show to help (prevent possibly?) TED and

is good all around.

One important thing I forgot to mention when I explained why, as a lazy

person ATDs seem the easier route is a primary factor I didn't rush into

RAI: the logistics! I have a lot of good friends who have and would pitch

in as far as carpools and meals and more, but first of all I'd have to

arrange all this. Major hassle. Then there's the little matter of just

how long I'd have to be isolated. Between Devin's research (he's in

nuclear science and came to the conclusion that a few weeks is a better

quarantine period than the few days recommended), the fellow who set off

NYC subway radioactivity detectors earlier this year when 3 weeks (!)

post- RAI, and some other things I've read, I'd have to be away from my

family for well over a week. I don't have family in town to hide out with

and personally I think it would be less traumatic for someone with

children under 5 to take a 10 day vacation than be cloistered in his/her

home but be inaccessible.
