Guest guest
Hey ! A PPI is a proton pump inhibitor, but instead of neutralizing the acid, like Zantac or Pepcid (these are H2Antagonists), it sluices the proton pumps (the acid tubes) off the stomach lining so that the stomach cannot produce as much acid. It needs to be given daily, and sometimes twice a day, for it to work well. currently takes 15 mg of Prevacid every evening, and then we follow up with a dose of Zantac in the morning. I think most of the kids on the list serve, that take a PPI, do so in the morning, but we've found that the Zantac just wasn't controlling the reflux well enough overnight, and changed the order to help keep from aspirating in his sleep. Hope this helps! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 31 months, G-Tube)
