This way there is no chance for any trace of forbidden foods to come in contact with my sons meal. Have you ever seen the back room of a diner or restaurant? It is chaotic, and I don't see any way that you could 100% be positive of no cross contamination - the spatula or ladle they use to serve the food, the dribble from the other plates as the waitress tries to carry out 4 plates on her arms and just the way food is stored in these places is a starting point for cross contamination. Then the grill the food is cooked on, etc. Alot of parents do order out so maybe they'll answer with some ideas, but I got great results with this diet and no meds that I won't chance it. Just my 2 cents. on Long Island New York * ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Guest guest
I know that many on this list never eat out. But we're like you...eating out is such a treat. I have done it several ways (but remember we are really new at this). First, I've brought all of my kid's foods with me and only ordered food for my husband and me. That is probably the easiest for me frankly. Or we have ordered a plain hamburger patty for the girls and brought their other foods. Fast food restaurants: we eat at Mc's, Burger King, or In and Out Burger. We get plain hamburger patties for the girls (Make sure they don't give you a bun!!!) and French fries. We have given them soda too, or brought their rice milk. We haven't seen a reaction to anything yet. The only time we did was when we just started the diet and DH ordered chicken nuggets and picked the breading off. Yikes! Good luck! I usually just take along food for Graeme, but I have contacted some of the chains and they usually will send you a list of safe foods. Outback sent me a menu with all the GF foods marked. They did not mark the CF foods, however, so you would have to ask about that. On the children's menu I believe the only GF item was barbequed ribs. I am celiac and when I go out to eat, I pick something from the menu that looks ok, then I often tell the server I am severely allergic to wheat. It's sometimes easier than trying to explain gluten and celiac. I picked the Guiltless Chicken, which came with rice and steamed veggies. The server took my order and about 5 minutes the manager came out to talk to me. He asked if I had a gluten intolerance. I was amazed and told him so. He said that they are working to become more aware of dietary issues. He said he would go back and double check with their list to make sure everything was ok. It was and I had a nice meal. I imagine that this varies greatly throughout the chain, but it's progress! ---------------------------------------------- Jay Bigam Marketing and Information Technology Manager Kinnikinnick Foods Inc. www.kinnikinnick.com Toll Free: 1-
