Guest guest
----- Original Message ----- From: Ron as to the differences between Tapazole & PTU. Hi Ron, This is what I understand on this so far a) Is one more effective than the other? Some docs say PTU is better at suppressing antibodies, others say they're the same. Is one better for those of us who have rather serious TED than the other? Same as (a). c) Are the side effects of either worst than the other...or are they similar? My doc says the side effects are the same but other sources (and Aileen's experience) suggest the Tap is safer. The chances of vasculitis or hepatits seem lower and Tap isn't classified as a carcinogen, whereas PTU is. (I ended up on PTU because I itched a lot initially on Tapazole but in restrospect I think I wish I had stayed on PTU). Best wishes, B. For short term use ( 2 years or less) , both are ok. Ptu is safe during pregnancy whereas Tap isn't. Aileen
