Guest guest
Hi Terry, Yes, with the benefit of hindsight I would probably have been better splitting one 5mg pill in half and taking one half each day instead of taking a 5mg every second day. I did buy a pill cutter and tried it for a couple of days. The NeoMercazole pills have a hard white coating and when I tried to cut them they shattered and I finished up with tiny fragments of pill all over the bench. Short of licking the bench I couldn't see how I was going to be able to get the full benefit of the pill and so gave up on pill splitting. I have been back on 5mg daily since March and if the next tests in early July indicate that I can reduce a bit I will persevere with the pill cutter and will definitely make sure I get a daily dose. My TSH disappeared in January and hasn't been seen since but I am not concerned as the FT3 and FT4 are now back in normal range and I will watch them closely if I am able to lower the dosage next month. I think you and Pam B also have had drops in your TSH since the beginning of this year for no apparent reason. I cannot begin to imagine what caused mine to suddenly nosedive to .003 from a steady 1.3 where it had been for six months. I have learned not to take any thing about Graves for granted and to be grateful that I can function even if it is not at 100%!! > Hi , > > From my experience the every-other-day thing is just the opposite of what > works towards remission. My theory (and I admit, it's just a theory) is > that your taking the small, regular doses allows the thyroid to relax and > get better. Sort of like the theory behind B & R. I have a friend here in CA > whose endo wanted her on every other day doses, too--and she got sicker > until I suggested she try my method.
