Sheryl:

Ask them if she can have chicken broth. When was having her

catheter procedure done they said she can have clear fluids up to a

certain point and chicken broth was one of them. This way you can put

that in her bottle.

Good Luck

Hi Sheryl,

What are they doing the MRI for? had an MRI and they had a

bad time getting the IV in - don't be afraid to insist on a pediatric

IV nurse from the beginning. The nurse will want to try herself but

the IV nurses are super-duper good at getting IVs in the first time.

Also, make sure they don't let her wake up until they have reviewed

the pictures to make sure they don't need more... was just

waking up and they had to put him under again to get more pictures -

GRRR! I don't know what to tell you about the liquids but am sure

someone here will - I think they talked about an IV drip with

dextrose (sugar)?

Sheryl-

just had surgery last week. I spoke at length with the surgeon and

provided info on SGA/RSS and fasting. He agreed to fast 4 hours. I woke

4 1/2 hours prior to procedure and gave her a bottle with polycose to help

sugars last. She was just fine. I would also agree with the glucose IV if the

procedure is going to take a while. did not have this however, her

procedure took a whole 8 minutes. Good Luck, I hope everything turns out ok.

Sheryl,

My son, Jake (4 1/2 years old) just had an MRI done in July and we had

him admitted the night before. (He eats normally during the day, and

uses his g-tube at night.) For the procedure, they inserted the IV

line around 6pm, for use later that night. He went to bed around 8pm

and he used his g-tube until around 2am. Then they shut the g-tube

feedings off and switched him over to IV (D10) for the remainder of

the night, into the morning until his MRI was over.

Everything was fine.
