Here is what the '98 Bartalena study says....

" Among the 148 patients treated with methimazole, 3 (2 percent) who had

ophthalmopathy at base line improved, 4 (3 percent) had worsening of eye

disease,

and the remaining 141 had no change. "

Jae,

At least for me, no TED at all and I've been on ATD's 9 years. Everyone's

different, some get it and some don't. I have had my gums affected, quite

badly with an autoimmune disease, benign mucus membrane pemphigus. That was

luckily transitory, and has been under control/gone for a couple of years.

Others get other symptoms. Not even everyone I know who's had RAI has TED,

but it seems that the percentages there are quite a bit higher than with

ATd's (now I'm wondering, has anyone found a comparative study?).

Hi ,

thanks for posting these, very educational. I think the missing link in all

of it, at least from my observation of those who post here, is long-term

follow-up. I'd love to see them revisit all the people they studied at 5,

10, 15 and 20 years!
