PTU reaction? Darn, I thought I was doing well.

To continue from my previous post, my endo called back and told me to stop

the PTU at least through the weekend (I have a rash on the back of my neck,

and a swollen lymph node nearby). I am scared to stop the PTU, but more

scared to take it, as endo said it would be " more life threatening " to

continue it than to stop it. He said if I the rash goes away I can perhaps

start back on it. It seems to me that this is yo-yoing (too high a dose,

withdrawal, etc.). As I said in my earlier post, I'd been on 200 mg PTU for

4 weeks, and started out mildly hyperthyroid (TSH .01, but FT4, Total T4

and T3 WNL, but high end of normal on the FT4, TPO >70% and TSI 198).

Hopefully, I will get the blood work back tomorrow. Regardless, I think

endo doesn't want me to start back on the PTU until the rash goes away. So

frustrated, as I am feeling fine physically.

Anyone have this happen? What is advisable? (Get a new endo?)

Hi,

When I was on ptu I was able to stop it for a few days without any

ill effects. My Graves is mild and it sounds like yours is too. You

may need to reduce the amount you are taking but I am not an expert on

these things. so i might not be giving sound advice. I think your endo

is just being cautious.

I wouldn't fire him yet.

Thanks, Aileen. I am so skittish when it comes to doctors these days.

I am less concerned about the rash than the swollen lymph node at the back

of my neck...have you ever heard of this being associated with the meds?

Maybe it is a " sign of infection " and potentially dangerous? Maybe it will

turn out to be nothing. This is confusing.

Thanks,
