Guest guest
Hi Sheryl, For , the decision to have a g-tube placed was a no-brainer. He weighed 7#4oz at 5 and 6 months of age. By 7 months, (his reflux getting worse, as we tried to push more formula into him) he had fallen to 7# even. By 8.5 months, feeding him with a bottle was a full-time job, and still he only weighed 8#. Dr H, who told us that she could feed ANY child, couldn't even get the bottle into his mouth! At this time, was on 30kcal/oz formula and we were lucky to be getting 8-10 oz into him during a 24 hour period. Placing a g-tube was the only answer left, or would have starved. Are you going to the convention, and seeing Dr H?? If so, she'll tell you what she thinks. I know that she suggested the addition of a g-tube for several kids, and a change to continuous feeds from bolus feeds, for several others. Although the g-tube comes with it's own set of problems, I have to say that it was the BEST thing we ever did for . Hope this helps.
