Listserve gathering at hotel - next year's convention

I would encourage some of you who would like to do this to gather

together and form a mini-committee. We have to have all speakers

and plans for the hotel sketched out for a meeting that Katy and I

have on October 9th. Then completely finalized by December 1st....

The hotel would not be able to provide a ballroom though, unless you

could come up with a lot of money to rent one!!! There are few

rooms left after MAGIC takes the massive set of ones Friday and

Saturday nights, and the left side of rooms on Thursday night.

Maybe listserve families would want to contribute money and get a

gathering room? Thursday night most families want to be in the

Exhibit Hall so they don't miss out on the " free stuff " -- but

otherwise, I would say maybe hanging out at the indoor pool???

I know the hardest part for many of us (me especially) is the

unnerving feeling of having to walk up to people and read their name

tags -- it feels awkward. But truly, that is really the only way,

since none of us who are new to each other will recognize each other.

The tables in the MAGIC ballroom are all labeled RSS, so the

families sitting there will all be RSS. My best time was on

Saturday night Bingo, when I literally just walked from table to

table, saying hello and meeting people. I felt bad that I missed

families who had already left.

OH, I thought of something. Having the front of the Dr. H visit

area as a gathering place was hard due to noise. Did anyone

remember the room that Joe took the photos in? We could probably

arrange for a room like that, for Friday night. It could just be

the RSS Hangout room. The problem is that MAGIC really wants people

to be in the main ballroom -- but if it was a quiet place where you

could go for a bit and connect with folks? Again though, we would

have to fundraise the money to pay for this room.

Who wants to take on being this mini-committee? Make sure you let

Katy and I know your decisions! We'll support you in whatever way

we can.
