Guest guest
Hi , When I first started treatment, last fall, I had extremely swollen lymph glands, not where you describe but all around my throat. My endo was concerned and tested me for mono etc. but found nothing. Over 6-8 months most of the swelling subsided and I assume it was the Graves'. I started on Tapazole but was switched to PTU because I had a lot of itching at the start. The endo's thought was that I was allergic to it, though I've heard other theories suggesting either that the itching was due to the Graves' itself or to too large a dose of Tap, and similar suggestions for the itchy rashes and hives people seem to get early in treatment. PTU is the choice for a person wanting to get pregnant, but if you clearly were allergic and had to switch you have a good chance of not being allergic to Tap and could at least try for remission in a year. Hopefully, and especially since you're feeling fine, you and your endo (with resources from Graves_support) will figure out what to do and this will pass quickly! B. Guest guest
Thanks so much, . When you had your swollen lymph glands (mine is actually a node, in the back by the bony part at the base of the skull) and your rash, did they stop your meds cold turkey? This is what I'm worried about...and what if it is still there on Monday? Being dependent on a doctor is disconcerting, especially if you are wary of him (and of docs in general). I don't want to be mis-treated, if you know what I mean. As for waiting a year on tap and hopefully go into remission, it occurs to me that it would be risky to get pregnant because the Graves' could flare up anytime. I would think surgery would be in order if I can't take PTU and am completely decided on having kids. I'm not so gung-ho, so it is harder to make the sacrifice, especially since I don't even know if I can get pregnant (37 y/o), and then I'd be dealing with hypO. Oh well, like you said, hope for the best and perhaps I won't have to go there.
