Hi Liz,

TSI are the antibodies that cause hyperthryoidism in GD. For remission, you

want to have a very low or negative TSI level.

About 90% of people with GD also produce TPO antibodies and about 50% produce

thyroglobulin antibodies. TPO antibodies are more related to thryoid cell

destruction.

Your high TPO antibodies may give you added risk to move from hyperthryoidism

into hypothyroidism. When this occurs, the hypothyroidism is usually mild

compared to that of ablation. And it may be temporary if it occurs.

For more on thryoid antibodies, see www.medscape.com/viewarticle/452668_print

If this doesn't work go to www.medscape.com and register. It's free. Then do

a search for Thyroid antibodies. This article is adapted from the Thyroid

journal, and the author is Ann Liebert. Take care, Elaine
