Guest guest
, Please do not take everything on that web page as fact. I saw several major errors. The journalist taken information from a variety of sources, some of which appear to be very out dated. I am speaking over 30 years old at least. And there is the standard half truths on there also. Biggest issue I have is the fact that it says the thyroid is being attacked and cells are being destroyed. This is not true, but it sure is a great sales technique to sell RAI. More research for you. The antibodies that cause Graves' stimulate the thyroid to keep producing hormone and not shut down as normal. They do not attack it. The word attack implies they destroy the thyroid. No cells are killed by Graves' antibodies. If Graves' is untreated, and the patient lives through it, the thyroid autoimmune disease will, in time, change to Hashimotos , which does destroy thyroid cells. Back in the very olden days, before they knew anything about this disease, the patients ended up in insane asylums. In time, if still alive and no heart attack or stroke had killed them, yes... it did change to Hashimotos. You will find most all of us do test high for TSI antibodies, the cause of Graves'. There can be a time delay in these antibodies showing in a blood test, but they will show. TPO antibodies are the main ones for Hashimotos, and I believe the percentage of us that test with these TPO antibodies right in the very beginning is either 70 or 75 %. The antithyroid drugs DO get rid of both of these, combined with proper lifestyle and diet modifications. AND... for those that did not read the article, it also claimed most all that have RAI become euthyroid ! If anyone here ,knows anyone that has become euthyroid after RAI... please raise your hand. Sheesh !!!! -Pam L- 3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission due to SLOW reduction of PTU (despite an incompetent endo ! ), improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the big picture. Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
Guest guest
Yikes. Well it just goes to show you! Thought it looked good -- guess I'll stick to Elaine's book for info, as that seems always reliable. Thanks Pam, > , > > Please do not take everything on that web page as fact.
