Hi Tikva -- your daughter should ideally be measured standing using

a professional stadiometer. A composition book or something of this

type should be placed under the shorter leg -- it is important that

the thickness of the book be the approximate amount of the leg

length discrepancy. Dr. H keeps various compositions books of

different thicknesses, and then a log of which kids use which

books. Then when your child comes to get measured, they look up

which book, and stick it under the child's foot and bam. Holding

the child's head in her hands, Dr. H slowly stretches the child's

neck up several times. Then uses the stadiometer, with a weighted

level, she measures the child. Ideally, the child is measured

several times and the average is taken.
