I like the solution to that problem, but my question is this. Is repeated

toilet flushing obsessive/compulsive behavior or perseverating? The reason

I'm asking is that has taken to quite deliberately touching the

ground every time he gets out of the car. (kind of like how the Pope kisses

the ground every time he gets off a plane!) I would consider this(

behavior, not the Pope's!) obsessive/compulsive behavior and the incessant

toilet flushing to be perseverating.

That valve under the toilet is a god-send! My 2 and 1/2 yo son (ASD) is

currently obsessed with toilet flushing. Once that water supply is gone, so

is the draw, for him, at least.

We have very vivid memories from that period. The strongest ones are from

the times when he stuffed towels or entire rolls of lavatory paper into the

toilet before flushing and flushing. We got quite expert at drying out the

basement.

One good tip to all of you who have this problem: Far better than locking

the lavatory door, is to turn the water supply to the toilet nearly off. If

the toilet takes 3 minutes to fill after flushing, that's no big problem for

normal users, but it's a great help for breaking this kind of habit. Our

family's water bill went down by 35% after we started the diet.....
