Hi Besty and Besty's Daughter !

I am rushing off to work right now , so I mostly want to just give Betsy's

Daughter a HUGE hug, and say I know you will figure this out, and NO you are

NOT crazy !

I quickly glanced at the labs, but was not sure when the antithyroid drug

was added, how much each lab, and when it was stopped...or if it was...I

think you are on antidepressants only now.

I wonder if ya take any medications that could also affect these numbers ?

I REALLY hope some of our other old time members are about this morning to

try to help. If not, and most of us work full time, rest assured, we will

get back home sooner or later.

Do you have e-mail access at home?

Please do join us yourself...plus, several of us are more active over at

http://www.mediboard.com/cgi-local/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1

You could come over there today and look around. There is a great search

feature there too... that WORKS ! I think you may find more folks at home

over there during the day.

Just type in a word or two and you find old posts that are about the same

thing.

There are lots of us out here willing to help, but waiting on one list will

take too much time.

Very good information here:

Now I really gotta run. :-)

3 1/2 years Graves', TED, and PTU. Remission due to SLOW reduction of PTU

(despite an incompetent endo ! ), improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition,

herbs, and looking at the big picture.

Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.

Betsy,

I do feel a bit broken-record-ish about this, but the tests your doctor ran

don't tell the story, and you really need to demand the right tests. 1) TSI

antibody test, 2) FREE T4 and FREE T3 tests. The antibodies tell whether we

have GD, the free tests determine how much hormone is available for the body

to use. The total T4 and T3 they gave your daughter don't do that, so give a

murky picture. They're outdated!

Given these results however, I can understand the endo saying she's not

really hyper. They appear kind of borderline normal. But like I said, they

can be really, really misleading. The Free T3 is expensive, but at this

point you really ought to get all the info.

Hi Betsy,

I agree with Terry, you should get her Free T3, Free T4 and TSI and TPO

antibodies tested.

But it seems that your daughter probably has subacute thyroiditis, which is

transient and may lead to a hypOthyroid phase (so be on the look out for

hypO symptoms). Just have her tested every 3-4 weeks until she seems in the

clear.

You can ask to have her put on a beta blocker to keep her comfortable while

the thyroid calms down, if that's the way it's heading. Also ask if there

are any anti-inflammatory medications she should use. I am NOT impressed by

your doctors -- you might want to switch. They don't seem to really know

how to do a proper work up or to give medications to relieve symptoms.
