Guest guest
Jemima, One of the things about a group is that you get different answers from different group members. This is NOT such a complex issue, and the supplement that Sheila is recommending is not something I've ever heard of. While it may be wonderful, I'd like to see some studies backing up the need for more Omega 6 in our diet--we get plenty already from what I can tell, without supplementing for it! Studies have shown that supplementing with flax seed oil (very high in Omega 3 fatty acids) helps calm eye problems. While I don't have eye problems myself, some of the people who do will chime in soon. Pure flax seed oil comes in a refrigerated (always!) liquid, and I think you work your way up to taking a couple of tablespoons a day, starting with less because it can upset your bowels a bit at first. You can get capsules but would have to take a lot of them to equal the amount you need to help your eyes. Look in the health food store. It's always refrigerated, and in a dark brown bottle. It's a very fragile oil and can degrade and spoil quickly. The alternative is to get the whole flax seeds, and grind them up and sprinkle them on your food. Not sure how much you need to take of those though, probably quite a bit.
