Essential fatty acids contained in Omega-rich oils like flaxseed, fish oil,

borage seed oil and black current seed oil etc...help reduce inflammation

and quiet the immune system. You can find a balanced version as " Udo's

Ultimate Blend " at your local health food store (or ask them to order if

they don't have it). Not all EFAs are created equal. You need to be careful

to obtain oils that are GMO free. (Udo's Ultimate Blend or Perfect Blend

manufactured by Flora is GMO free)

Here is a suggested way to take them:

Dr Bob advised supplementing 1 tablespoon in the AM and PM of Udos Oil.

Udo's oil is a fatty acid supplement that supplies omega 3, omega 6, and

omega 9 oils, as well as cofactors to help the oils work better. The company

Flora makes Udo's. In selecting a fatty acid supplement, the manufacturing

and transportation aspects have to be flawless. The ratio of omega 3 to

omega 6 is about 2 parts omega 3 oil and 1 part omega 6. Although science is

busy determining if a 3-1 or even 4-1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 are the

proper levels, Dr. Bob advised that Udo's oil at 2-1 omega 3 to omega 6, in

combination with a normal diet, would increase the ratio to about 3-1

including food, falling within the realm of current science. You can also

supplement equal amounts of pumpkin seed oil and flax oil, or borage and

flax, instead of Udo's oil, according to Dr. Bob. [taken from article about

supplementing for autoimmune conditions].

Udo's Oil is also available as capsules if you'd rather not take it in the

liquid form. Hope this helps.

P.S. Barry Sears of the Zone Diet believes that we only need to supplement

with fish oil since we get enough of the the other Omegas in our diets

anyway and the fish oil provides the needed balance. He offers a GMO-free

salmon oil at his website and explains his reasoning in his books. If you do

a google search on EFAs, Omega oils etc... you may learn more and find

alternate sources.

Flaxseed oil

Somebody mentioned flaxseed oil for helping eye disease. Can anybody

tell me what form it comes in and how you use it?

Thank you

Here's a link explaining some of the important elements. Note that Udo does

not recommend fish oil because it is so difficult to get it without GMO

contamination. Barry Sears has a GMO-free version of fish oil available.

Most Graves patients avoid fish because of the iodine content. There is no

iodine in fish oil supplements. Note also why it is important to supplement

with more than just flaxseed oil. The 1-1 combination of flaxseed oil and

pumpkin seed oil suggested by 'Dr. Bob' will provide balance.

Phew..how did I know this wasn't going to be straightforward! Is

there anything else Graves patients should avoid? I wasn't aware of

the fish avoidance so I am guessing there will be an endless list of

other things also? I am in the UK, is the flaxseed oil product

available here?

Thanks
