Hi,

the new normal range for TSH is 0.3-3.04 mu/L although not all labs have

changed this yet. Your labs do suggest you're moving into hypothyroidism. The

pituitary secretes more TSH when it sees that you don't have enough thyroid

hormone for your body's needs. TSH stimulates your thyroid cells to produce more

thyroid hormone.

Most everyone can be maintained on 2.5-10.0 mg methimazole after the first

6-8 weeks on meds. Sounds like your doctor is on top of things. take care,

elaine

Hi Sandy,

Remember, TSH has a lag time , so does not show current information. Yours

could be showing what was happening right before the dose reduction from 30

mg down to 20 mg. This is why TSH is interesting, but never to be relied on

for any dose changes.

The FT4 is the one I always used. This reflects current thyroid status.

This is yours ( to help others when they read my reply )

*FreeT4 1.03 0.61-1.76*

Where you on the 20mg for a FULL 4 weeks before this result ?

IF so, a rapid drop to 10mg may be too fast.

It is 'legal' to only drop to 15mg at first and see how you feel.

Be sure the dose is split in three. That will be 5mg in the AM, 5 mg

midafternoon, and 5 mg at night. About 8 hrs apart. No need to stay up past

your bedtime to take a pill though.

Lets not add Obsessive/ Compulsive to the symptom list. ;-)

Keep good notes on specific symptoms, as you are starting to narrow in on

your set point. For ME a FT4 of 1.03 is hypo, but tolerable in that I can

get through a work day, but I am not the happiest camper in the group. It

also makes me anxious, my heart acts up on exertion, and my thought process

is a tad distorted.

Small problems seem big.

Pills alone only help the symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.

Hi Sandy,

The bottom line of course is how you feel, but for me, those would be quite

hypo.

I think you hit the nail right on the head Terry. I happened to find the

last results back in March and I definately felt much better back then. My

results for March 13, 03 were:

TSH 4.47 .350 - 5.50

FT4 0.86 0.61 - 1.76

Now, this month on 5/14/03

TSH 3.35 .350 - 5.50

FT4 1.03 0.61 - 1.76

I honestly thought I'd feel better. I almost feel like somebody's given me

something that majorly slows me down. sigh. Since my blood pressure has

been so normal (low for me) I'm starting to wonder if that's not slowing me

down. I also am having trouble sleeping at night. If I can get to sleep,

then I can stay asleep, but getting there is not easy unless I'm just

completely exhausted. When I don't sleep, I get headaches, and even those

are starting to come back. :-(
