Guest guest
Hi Sheryl, The reason that Dr H recommends that our children stay lower on the weight-for-height chart is that they are at risk for developing insulin resistance and type II diabetes, and being higher on the weight-for-height chart increases those risks significantly. From a personal standpoint, I know that when was at the 50% on this chart, we were having tons of problems with his BS. It bounced all over the charts. He had highs in the upper 290s and was as low as the 20s. Keeping him lower than the 25% on the weight-for-height has made a very real difference in his health. has a g-tube and is on continuous feeds, so Dr H lowered his feed rates when we saw her at the convention last year. Since then, we never up his feed rate more than 1cc/hr at any time. If his weight-for-height percentage jumps up then we leave him there until he is back in the acceptable range. Hope this helps Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 30 months, 21.4#, 30.6 " , G-Tube)
