Guest guest
Well Olivia's ped appt was a little dissapointing today. We didn't seem to accomplish much and he was running quite a bit behind so I didn't get to ask a few questions. The first problem for me was that they wouldn't undress Olivia to weigh her and it was cold out today so she was wearing jeans and a sweater! They said that they don't undress kids that are over 2 years old and I said that she's actually smaller than a 2 year old and that we need to know exactly how much she weighs... anyway she got weighed fully dressed and showed a gain of almost a pound so the Dr. was very happy, I said that I wasn't happy and explained why and he said that " I worry too much " ... more than a little dissapointing. He said that she's in an acceptable range for height to weight but I'll just have to let it go I guess even though I thought she was about 4-6 standard deviations below the 3rd percentile. He upped her Prilosec to 4ml twice a day (this seems a bit high to me) and to stop the zantac all together. I guess it just left me a little more confused since I wasn't expecting him to change things so much. He wouldn't run a ph probe or a GET test saying that " all kids with this syndrome have reflux and delayed emptying and there's nothing you can do to fix it because pyloro's (sp) and fundo's don't work " . Olivia's not severe enough to need either of these but it was not a very educated statement in my opinion (humble as it is). It would be nice to know just where she was though. We've got a new regime for the constipation so we'll hope that it works, we can't get the Miralax though. He then suggested a high fat, dairy, butter diet.... but she's allergic to dairy and soy so he said all of the fries that she want's to eat is ok. We do this anyway so no big change there. He doesn't believe in Cyproheptadine (Periactin) and said it's useless but we're going to try it again soon once the new reflux meds get everything under control. We'll be going back in a month for a weigh in (maybe I'll just take her in a thin cotton nightie? OK, that's the catty side coming out, I'm a bit frustrated) Maybe it all wouldn't seem so bad if we didn't have to drive 2 hours one way for a 12 min appt. Does anyone else have an 18lb child on 4ml of Prilosec twice daily (2mg/ml)? The family dr prescribed 1.25ml of Prilosec and she's getting 1.5ml of zantac (which we're supposed to stop) Thanks for listening, I'm feeling better already just writing about it.
