Guest guest
I recently had some dental work done -- with carbocaine -- and it did not work well for me at all. In my case, it took much longer to work and it never completely numbed the area where the work was being done. Also, it's " effectiveness " wears off much more rapidly than novocaine due to the lack of epinephrine (sp?). In retrospect, I would take a beta blocker 2 or 3 days before having the dental work done (my endo's late suggestion) and take novocaine. It's my belief that I was much more stressed with the carbocaine than I would have been with novocaine, so any benefit it may have had for my heart was lost. I'm also taking MMI so I feel that my GD is reasonably under control. (Obviously, it would be a different story if you were extremely hyper.) At any rate, I don't mean to scare anyone, but I wish someone had clued me in to the possible downsides of carbocaine before I was in the dental chair. Shelly M.
