Guest guest
Del, I recall you mentioning that you are allergic to iodine. The uptake test gives you a dose of radioactive iodine. That's what they use, to test how much of it your thyroid " takes up " , basically. It's NOT a necessary test, as has been posted by other people here. It CAN and probably will, at the very least, badly aggravate your eye condition. So why are you letting them do it? Perhaps this info went right by you 'cause you're so inundated with new info, that happens to a lot of us when newly diagnosed. But serious consideration of saying " doc, I want to get an ultra sound and TSI test instead " should be the order of your day! Guest guest
Thanks Terry, I really questioned this too and was assured that they will not be using iodine in this test. They are using some " other kind " of contrast. I will be checking this again when I go Monday. If I can't get the answer that assures me that there is no iodine in it, I will be walking out and straigt to the Doctor! All of the tests that has to be done, knowing when to agree and having to double check what is being used, is really stressing me out. I only hope that this all get a little easier as time marchs on! I really appreciate you for bring this to my attention. Del > Del, > > I recall you mentioning that you are allergic to iodine. The uptake test > gives you a dose of radioactive iodine. I don't get it: it's my understanding that hyperthyroidism plus a high TSI (stimulating antibodies) level is sufficient to diagnose Graves disease. This was how I was originally diagnosed - I was balking at the RAIU test, and in the meantime my TSI came back positive and my endo told me I did indeed have Graves. I asked him if the antibodies were diagnostic for Graves, and he told me they were. In the absence of anything else that confuses the picture, are any kind of scans really necessary? Aren't hot nodules that the scans look for relatively uncommon compared to Graves, and rather unlike to turn up in association with it? -Jill
